Why to care about meteorites and impacts | Ludovic Ferrière | TEDxVienna
What are asteroids and meteorites? What do we learn from them? Why to care about their past impacts on Earth and on other planets? How to, and can we, avoid potentially devastating impacts in the future? All these questions have some answers, but more fundamentally, what drives us to continue to explore these fields of research? Is it really the thirst for knowledge? Ludovic Ferrière is a geologist, chief curator of the rock collections and co-curator of the prestigious meteorite collection at the Natural History Museum Vienna (Austria), and an expert on meteorite impact craters. Born in France, his explorations have taken him all around the world, allowing him to confirm the meteorite impact origin of two of the currently ~185 recognized meteorite impact craters on Earth.
