Karim El-Gawhary – The Arab Spring 1

About the talk

2 days after Muammar al-Gaddafi’s death Karim El-Gawhary had to be present in Tunisia due to the first democratic elections and the dramatic incident in Libya. Nevertheless El-Gawhary gave us a Skype interview about the Arabic Spring, the role of Social Media and ‘I Like’ Generation.

About the speaker

Karim El-Gawhary became the voice of the arab spring over the last months in Austria. As the Middle Eastern correspondent for the national austrian TV (ORF), Mr. El-Gawhary also writes in several german speaking newspapers both in Austria and in Germany. Since the outbreak of the first Gulf War he has been reporting regularly from the arabic world, focusing on the relevant facts as well as on the small – seemingly – unimportant things: the relevance of small things! He is one of the most Social-Media-active journalists in the german speaking world and was awarded the Concordia Award for Freedom of the Press 2010.
