Talk of the week – Alain de Botton: Atheism 2.0

OMG. For God’s sake, let’s talk about Atheism 2.0.Alain de Botton chants charmingly about why being an atheist doesn’t have to be plain and colourless. Data and reason may give you satisfying results and answers, but it definitely won’t warm you during cold nights.
It’s okay to ask for help, believe and hope for a miracle and no, singing christmas carols is not crime. Alain de Botton describes a religion for atheists — call it Atheism 2.0 — that incorporates religious forms and traditions to satisfy our human need for relationships, ritual and transcendence. Culture replaces scripture and gives us guidance.
Thank you, Plato. Thank you, Jane Austen. Thank you, Shakespeare. Thank you, Alain de Botton. Amen.
